Today/Homelessness Sunday, 10.00am. Our worship on Homeless Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate work that tackles the problem of homelessness and the stories of people who are no longer struggling with their housing. Whatever our level of engagement with homelessness; Homeless Sunday is an opportunity to take it a step higher. The preacher is Sam Wells. The collection at the 10am and 5pm services will be going to our Sunday International Group and Praxis. Please use the gift aid envelopes in the pews. The service is followed at 12noon by the opportunity to hear Pam Orchard, Chief Executive Officer of The Connection at St Martin’s, speak about their work helping homeless people in London, in St Martin’s Hall.

This week/Great Sacred Choral Classics, Mondays, 6.30pm. Join Revd Dr Sam Wells and choral groups from St Martin’s as they explore great choral works in words and music over this exciting new series: 29 January Mozart Mass in C minor with St Martin’s Chorus; 5 February Bach Mass in B minor with the Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields; and 19 February Allegri Miserere with St Martin’s Voices. Free admission.
This week/Bread for the World, Wednesday 31 January at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome at our informal Eucharist, a service with prayer, music, word and reflection, followed by food and fellowship. This week Georgie Illingworth will be reflecting on journeying with silence.
This week/BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship, Thursday 1 February at 11.00am. This week BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship comes from St Martin’s, marking the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act, which allowed some women to vote and to stand for election in Great Britain for the first time. The preacher is the Archdeacon of Hackney, Revd Liz Adekunle, and the service is led by Revd Katherine Hedderly. The music is led by St Martin’s Voices, directed by Emily Dickens. All are welcome to join the congregation on Thursday 1 February at 11.00am for the recording of the service. It will be broadcast the following Sunday, 4 February, at 8.10am on BBC Radio 4.
The changing monthly display by the artists and craftspeoples group in the Foyer of the Crypt for January is by Kathryn Hardy. Each month a different member of the group will show an example of their work, so do look regularly to see the changing display.
Road closures Sunday 4 February, from 8.00am. There will be road closures in place near Trafalgar Square for the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run. Please check and plan your route before you travel as these may affect your journey into St Martin’s. The roads will re-open at 1.45pm.
Club Wednesday, 7 February, meet for lunch after the 1.00pm Choral Eucharist. Afterwards Revd Richard Carter will share about his recent trip to Lampedusa, with photos.
Faith in the Questions, Monday 12 February, 7.00pm. This evening offers a performance of a new one-act play, Counting the Clouds, followed by a conversation. The play, performed by Riding Lights, tells the story of a scientist who’s a Christian, wrestling with the structure of the universe, when his personal life is shaken to the core. The conversation that follows gives people a chance to ask their own questions of leading scientists. Free tickets, via Eventbrite.
Meditation Group, Tuesday 13 February, 6.30pm in the Dick Sheppard Chapel. The meditation group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. All welcome.
Inspired to Follow: Art and the Bible Story, Sunday 18 February, 12.00pm in the Austen Williams Room, looking at Gethsemane and Bellini’s ‘Agony in the Garden’. An opportunity to engage with a painting from the National Gallery’s collection, Biblical story and a theological reflection, in conversation with others. These sessions are intended to deepen an understanding of the Christian faith and to help you reflect on what it means to follow Jesus today. Speak with Alastair McKay for further information.
Chinese New Year Celebration, Sunday 18 February. The Chinese Speaking Congregation will be holding a Chinese New Year Lunch Party Celebration on Sunday 18 February in the Lightwell between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm. There will be introductions, demonstrations and performances of Chinese Arts and Cultures, in addition to the provisions of Chinese Food. All members of the English Speaking Congregation are cordially invited to join in and share in this joyful thanksgiving occasion to God in welcoming the Year of the Dog.

Lent Course 2018: Abiding – What does it mean to Abide in God’s love? We will be using Ben Quash’s wonderful Lent book Abiding as we reflect upon what it means to abide in body, in mind, through care, in relationship, in exile, in woundedness, and in peace.
