Today/Easter Flowers. There will a retiring collection for Easter flowers at the end of the 10am service. Any volunteers for arranging the flowers would be very welcome.
Today/Sam Wells Book Launch. During coffee hour Sam Wells will be launching two new books. Face to Face: Meeting Christ in Friend and Stranger is a collection of 21 pastoral encounters in which Sam has discerned the work of the Holy Spirit and recognised the presence of Christ. It has an introduction that sets out how he sees ministry in terms of silence, touch and words. Walk Humbly is an argument for the truth of Christianity and at the same time an appeal to inhabit the simple practices of being a Christian. In addition Sam will be launching two books that have recently been issued as second editions, Improvisation and Speaking the Truth. All are welcome and all four books will be available for purchase.
Today/Drawing Group/12-2.00pm, Glass Box. Each month for two hours the drawing club meets and draws together. The aim of this group is to encourage and practice together. Materials, objects to draw and step-by-step help for those beginners who would like it are all provided. No previous experience is necessary and all are welcome.
Today/Confirmation Preparation/12.15-1.15pm, Benenson Room. Adult confirmation classes continue on 14 April, 5, 12, 19 and 28 May. The Confirmation service will be on Wednesday 29 May at 6.30pm with the Bishop of London.
This Week/Holy Week and Easter. We welcome you to all of our services for Holy Week and Easter. Join with us as we follow the way of Christ through death to resurrection. There will be a Eucharist on Monday and Tuesday evening in the Dick Sheppard Chapel. Bread for the World on Wednesday evening concludes the Confessions of Augustine with Sam Wells preaching and presiding. Maundy Thursday Foot Washing and Institution of the Eucharist starts at 6.30pm with Vigil until 10pm. Good Friday includes an All Age Service at 10am and The Three Hours, with reflections by Bishop Guli Francis-Dehqani, Bishop of Loughborough, followed by hot cross buns and coffee in St Martin’s Hall. Easter Sunday begins with the Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter, with the lighting of the new fire on the Portico at 5.30am. It will be followed by Easter Breakfast (see below), Parish Eucharist at 10am. Full details on the Holy Week flyer available at the back of the church.
This Week/Holy Saturday, 20 April, 9.30-11.30am. We will be preparing the church for the Easter services from 9.30am after Morning Prayer. All helpers most welcome.
Next Sunday/Easter Day Bells. If you are coming to the 5.30am Easter Vigil or 10am Eucharist service on Easter Sunday, 21 April, please bring a noisemaker like a bell, whistle or rattle. This is to swell the cacophony of sound that proclaims “Christ is risen”!
Next Sunday/Easter Breakfast. Following the Easter Vigil, Lighting of the New Fire and First Eucharist of Easter, there will be a delicious Easter Breakfast to which all are welcome. If you are able to help with serving breakfast in the Hall early on Easter morn, can you please let Richard Carter or Bron Sanders know. As many volunteers as possible are needed.
PCC and Churchwarden Elections. At the Annual Meeting of Parishioners and Annual Parochial Church Meeting on Sunday 28 April this year there will be elections for churchwardens (who are elected for one year, up to a maximum of six) and PCC members (who are elected for three years, renewable once). There are five vacancies for PCC members. If you are interested in standing as a churchwarden or as a PCC member, please speak to the vicar or the current churchwardens.
Pastoral Assistants (Sheppard Scholars). We are looking for two enthusiastic Sheppard Scholars (new Pastoral Assistant scheme) to support new and refreshed mission and ministry projects at St Martin’s and with HeartEdge. Both roles will take part in the worshipping life of St Martin’s, with the opportunity to share the life of the Nazareth Community. This is an exciting and inspirational year-long programme beginning in September and offering two people a unique chance to learn and grow with us. Full details can be found on www.smitf.org. Leaves for Healing is a two-part exhibition organised by the artists’ and craftspersons’ group at St Martin-in-the-Fields. During Lent the exhibition runs from 6 March-20 April and in Eastertide from 21 April-9 June.
