Children are the church of today

We believe children are not just the church of tomorrow, they are a meaningful part of the church of today. Families, children, and youth are an integral part of life and worship at St Martin’s. We are working towards being a church where children and young people contribute to our collective worship regularly.

Children of all ages are welcome in our services. We understand that young children can make noise.

Jesus was not a silent baby, and we welcome members of the church community who are not at an age where they can always fully engage with silence. We appreciate the service can feel quite long for young children if your child becomes upset during the service you are welcome to take them to the back if they need that to settle or to the room mentioned below.

We welcome breast feeding in our services and also have a room allocated if you would like that.

We usually have a special room with toys and worship activities provided if parents and carers would like to take babies and preschool aged children at any point in our service.

We have children’s church groups during the service (currently alternate weeks) for those of primary school age and a monthly youth group after our service.

Children’s Church

Children’s church takes place during the 10am and 1.30 worship services for children of primary school age. Led by our growing children and youth ministry team, the children’s church explores together the stories of God who loves us and what that means for our day to day lives through stories, crafts, games, and other activities. For more information, please email joy.faulkner-mpeho@smitf.org.

St Martin’s Junior Choir

Children aged seven to thirteen are invited to audition for Children’s Voices of St. Martin’s who sing on an occasional basis at our Sunday Morning service– a chance to gain musical training, make friends, and have fun! For more information, please email choirs@smitf.org.

Baptism and Confirmation

We offer baptism (sometimes called Christening) for babies, children, and adults.

Courses for baptism and/or confirmation of children take place on Sunday mornings from 12.15-1.15pm (after the Sunday Morning Congregation) and usually begin in March preparing for Confirmation by the Bishop in May or June. If your child would like to be baptised or confirmed, please let a member of the clergy team know. Registration takes place in January- February each year.

More information about baptism is available on our Baptism and Marriage page.

Safeguarding

St Martin’s works to encourage a safe environment for children and also for adults at risk (previously vulnerable adults) who visit, worship or are employed at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
