Ryan Hepburn read Music at Cambridge University, where he was Organ Scholar of Robinson College. He studied organ with David Sanger, and subsequently with Thomas Trotter. Since leaving Cambridge, Ryan has worked as both a freelance keyboardist and conductor, with artists such as Kathryn Jenkins, Steve Reich, Sir Tim Rice, and for the Royal Family. Ryan has a particular interest in contemporary classical music and collaborative piano. His 2016 prize-nominated PhD from Newcastle University on Steve Reich’s trauma works has been complemented by studying with Michael Dussek at the Royal Academy of Music. Ryan has worked extensively as a church musician, both in the UK and overseas, and is delighted to return to St Martin-in-the-Fields, having played here for services recently. Ryan lives in Brighton with his fiancée Hannah Ashenden, a professional cellist who works around the corner from St Martin-in-the-Fields on several West End shows, and from where Ryan combines an active performance career with working in the immensely enjoyable capacity of Head of Keyboard and Percussion at Brighton College.
