Open now until the end of the year
in the Crypt Lightwell at St Martin-in-the-Fields

Visit the inaugural ‘Children’s Plinth’ at St Martin-in-the-Fields – a new chapter in London’s artistic heritage, 163 years after the iconic Four Plinths of Trafalgar Square were established.

From now until Christmas, our magnificent Lightwell next to the Crypt hosts this exciting ‘Fifth Plinth’ exhibition, free and open to all visitors.

The centrepiece is The Dog Who Went To Space, a remarkable ceramic work by 15-year-old Mila Punwar. This piece earned first place at the Mayor of London’s Fourth Plinth Schools Awards, a competition that invites London schoolchildren aged 5-15 to create artworks inspired by Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth past and present commissions. Young artists are encouraged to express their creativity through various media, from traditional painting and sculpture to digital art and collage.

Accompanying Mila’s work are two other award-winning pieces: Autumn by Harlow Sipe, winner of the 5-7 age category, and Creature by Rawdah Bdeir in the 8-11 category.

These three exceptional works were selected by celebrated photographer Rankin, who served as guest judge in June.

While you’re visiting the Children’s Plinth you can also enjoy lunch or a coffee and a delicious cake in our historic Café in the Crypt. This unique underground café offers a variety of fresh, seasonal food and drinks in an atmospheric setting beneath beautiful 18th-century brick-vaulted ceilings.
