Verdi Requiem by Candlelight
Saturday 10 May 2025
7:00 pm - 8:15 pm
Written in memory of the Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni, this Verdi’s Requiem tells the story of Judgement Day through dramatic choruses and exquisite solos. With its operatic directness and intensity, it is no wonder that the composer Johannes Brahms declared this the creation of ‘a genius’.
The arrangement by Michael Betzner-Brandt is designed specifically for a chamber ensemble, allowing the choir to bring the grandeur and emotional depth of Verdi’s masterpiece to a more intimate setting while still capturing the essence and intensity of the original composition.
This concert lasts one hour with no interval.
