This programme highlights the diverse and evocative voices of four extraordinary composers, celebrating the expressive possibilities of the violin and piano. Clara Schumann’s Three Romances, open the programme with heartfelt lyricism and intimate charm while Poulenc’s Violin Sonata mixes vibrant energy, emotion and wit. Lili Boulanger’s Two Pieces reflect her remarkable talent and sensitivity and the programme concludes with Ravel’s Violin Sonata No. 2, a masterful work that juxtaposes blues-inspired rhythms with dazzling virtuosity and a modernist edge.

Matteo Cimatti is a 24 year-old Italian violinist based in London and Switzerland. Praised for his “refined playing and melodious and intense tone” (ANSA, 2023), he is a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Nominee and has recently won awards from the Fondation Leenaards, the Rahn Kulturfonds and the Councours d’Interprétation Musicale de Lausanne. Currently pursuing an Artist Diploma degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the guidance of David Takeno, Matteo recently graduated from the Haute École Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland, where he completed a Soloist Masters degree with Janine Jansen and Tomo Keller.
In April 2024, Matteo performed Mendelssohn Violin Concerto alongside the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne conducted by Nicolas Chalvin and has performed in numerous festivals throughout the years. Recent chamber highlights include a performance alongside Janine Jansen at the Sion Festival 2022. He is a founding member of the Basel- based Wendel Quartet since January 2024. Matteo Cimatti plays a 1769 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin kindly loaned to him through the Beare’s International Violin Society by a generous sponsor.
Roksana is a Polish pianist based in London, currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in Piano
Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying under Katya Apekisheva,
Noriko Ogawa, and Charles Owen. Previously, she graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with first-class distinctions in both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, where she studied with Dina Parakhina and Graham Scott. Last year, Roksana also completed a Master of Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with distinction. During her studies, Roksana received a prestigious full scholarship from ABRSM for her two-year Master of Music program (2021–2023).
Active on both the national and international music scenes, Roksana has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Poland, United Kingdom, Austria, Spain, and Italy.
