Crypt Close-Up: Engegård Quartet
Tuesday 18 February 2025
8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Beethoven meets folk fiddles in the crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields: pure energy from Norway’s award-winning Engegård Quartet.
“Music is life and death!” says Arvid Engegård of the Engegård Quartet – and this vibrant Norwegian string quartet thrives on live performance, on the special atmosphere of the venues where it plays, and on a belief that classics and folk music are just two sides of the same, life-affirming coin. Expect folk tunes and magical surprises in the crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields tonight, as well as Beethoven at his most powerful, Suk at his most passionate, and a brand new work created specially for the Engegård Quartet, and inspired by a peal of bells. Though with these players, every concert is a celebration.
