Trio Casella: Beethoven and the Post-Romantics

Friday 08 November 2024

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Germaine Tailleferre was the only female member of the group of French composers known as Les Six and her music was sadly overlooked. Her distinctly French romantic style, with echoes of Faure, is perfectly reflected in her Piano Trio of 1916. Josef Suk’s Elegie, written in 1902, is a heartfelt and emotional piece that evokes a deep sense of longing. In contrast, Beethoven’s Piano Trio, Op. 70 No. 2, composed in 1808, is characterised by its serene and lyrical beauty, embodying Beethoven’s transition into his mature style, with an emphasis on intricate interplay between the instruments.
