Stephen Dominic Ellery conducts orchestras all over the world. He is regularly invited to Japan, Poland and South America. As Music Director of the Polish Opera in London he has conducted Moniuszko’s Straszny Dwor, Halka, Hrabina and the rarely performed Paria. He also gives concerts at St Martins in the Fields with the London Gala Orchestra with whom he performed at the Buxton Fringe Festival, Frome Festival, Leytonstone Festivals in July and in August conducted a summer prom to thousands of people at Castle Howard. As well as performing Figaro and La Traviata in Vienna he has conducted in all the major German cities and last year made his debut at the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic and Leipzig Gewandhaus. He has also conducted in Australia, Peru, Mexico, Vietnam, India, Ghana, Lithuania and China.
He studied conducting in St Petersburg, Russia, with Ilya Musin from 1991-95 and earlier 1988-91 in Krakow, Poland, under Jerzy Katlewicz. He holds a Masters Degree in Conducting from Tokyo Geidai University and speaks 9 languages.
The London Gala Orchestra aims to combine musical excellence with popular appeal. Each year it performs at over 40 venues across the country, providing an exciting range of concerts, musical events and corporate entertainment.
Its small management team has a reputation for a flexible approach to event planning, programming and budgeting, whether providing music for the concert platform, open-air events, opera and ballet, choral performances or special celebrations.
Established in the 1980’s, the London Gala Orchestra is well known to audiences. In the past year alone it has played to over fifty thousand people, many of them attending on a regular basis.
